Commutation system jackets are perhaps the most common of Confederate jackets seen throughout the entire war. While this does not refer to a specific pattern of jacket, but rather to all those made and purchased from makers outside the government and state depots.

Our reproduction Commutation jacket is of a fairly generic pattern with a seven (7) cutton front, topstiched by hand, and made from tan or gray jean cloth with osnaburg lining. You can added shoulder straps to your jacket for an additional $15.

Given that these jackets varied so widely, we welcome requests to make specific original jackets or to customize the jacket beyond what is offered here. If you have a specific jacket in mind, or would like to have different features or trim added to your jacket, please contact us and we be happy to make a customized jacket for you.

Please note whether you would prefer tan or gray jean cloth at checkout.

Note:

To ensure a proper fit, we request that you get accurate measurements using a tape measure or the strip of cloth and yardstick method detail on the FAQ page. Without an accurate measurement, we cannot ensure that your garment will fit they way it is intended to.

If you are taller than 5'9", please let us know that you will need a longer length jacket.

For sizes larger than 48, there is an additional $20 added to the item.
