Throughout the war, Confederate purchasing agents regularly ordered thousands of gray wool flannel shirts, include several orders provided by companies like Isaac Campbell & Co. in London, England. While none of these shirts are known to have survived, there is enough documentation to piece together a likely style of shirt imported from the UK. Our reproduction is based on these descriptions as well as the MacRea issue shirt (which is believed to be a domestically made shirt that was made from imported cloth or a kit). The shirt has a band collar, a single patch pocket on the left chest, placket closed with 3 buttons. These will come only in gray wool flannel.
This kit contains the cut shirt pieces, all the buttons you'll need, and complete instructions with images. You will need to provide your own thread. You will also have the choice to choose between machine sewing instructions or handsewn to make something more like the MacRea shirt.
